Good grief, how is it almost the end of summer already? I realized yesterday that we’re nearly to August. What the heck happened? I couldn’t believe it when I saw how long it had been since I put anything up. Clearly, I need to do better about that!
Unforunately, I don’t have that much new to report. I’m still plugging away at the same projects, although I can say that progres is being made! I’ve gotten a good bit done on re-editing Troy’s Surrender, my little cowboy novella that was published back in the day with Amber Quill. It was my second book, and I think I mentioned that I decided to give it a complete overhaul. I’ve added around 5,000 words so far, done a lot of editing, and plan to add even more content. I’m doing the same with Dragon Herder (it was going to be two short books, and I’m combining into one). I’m also thinking about doing a similar thing with The Brass Box, my very first published work, that was with the now-defunct Samhain Publishing.
All these rewrites knocked the schedule for the new stuff a little off-kilter. But I know what everyone wants to hear about is the next Dragon Treasure story. 🙂 I hit 40,000 words earlier this week, which puts me roughly two-thirds of the way done. I’ve also been doing quite a bit of editing along the way, so it’s going to hopefully be in pretty good shape by the time I hit “The End.” I’ve gotten some more characters nailed down, and I have a solid direction and storyline for the rest of the series — I’ve been getting some words in on both Raven and Seamus’ stories as I’ve gone. Yes, Seamus is definitely getting his own book. I debated about that, but it looks like there’s going to be more story to tell 🙂 A new character also appeared in Raven’s book, who may or may not get his own book, as well. We’ll see on that, he’s a mysterious one!
I hope you’ve all had a glorious summer!
Best Wishes to all,

*PS…I broke the writer’s block! The word counter on Chaos has finally started to move again!*
I’m embarrassed about how long it’s taken me to post this. I’ve been meaning to for months now, time just keeps running away from me!
So, as you are all probably well aware by now, Amber Quill Press closed it’s doors at the end of March. They were a wonderful publisher, and I will greatly miss working with everyone over there. I completely understand their reasons, though – it’s a tough time for the small, independent publishers.
But to what I’m sure everyone wants to know – what about the books? I’m happy to announce that I’ve been working with Pride Publishing to get most of my back catalogue from Amber back into print. Some have already been contracted, others we’ve just discussed, but it looks promising! My two newest ones are, in fact, already scheduled, since they needed the least work. Learning to Love Cats comes out in June and Right Place, Right Time will be out September. I’ll put the dates up on the Coming Soon page, and on the book pages. They’ve got new covers and have been polished up a bit, but there aren’t any significant changes. Lucky has been contracted, but I don’t have any details on that yet.
There are a couple of my books from Amber that I’m holding off on re-publishing just yet, for various reasons. Dragon Herder was meant to have a sequel, which would have been part of a second Dragon-themed pax scheduled for release this summer. Obviously, that isn’t happening now, and I’m thinking of expanding the first book to include the second story rather than putting out two novellas. Loving Someone Extraordinary is on hold, as well, for a similar reason. And when I went back over Troy’s Surrender, I decided it needed some re-writing. I really want to get Chaos’ book out first, though, so I don’t have a time line for when those will get done.
I’ll leave you with a last note on Chaos. I’m still on track to have that one submitted sometime this summer. I haven’t updated the word count because I’ve been handwriting a lot of this one, thanks to my crazy schedule lately. I promise, I’ve been making good progress!
It’s been a rough year for me, and I know that I haven’t been in touch much lately. Those of you who keep up with my news know I’ve been working on my Master’s degree — well, this spring, everything with that started to fall apart. I spent two months scrambling, trying to salvage my work. In the end, I wasn’t able to. I was down to the thesis, and now I have to start all over again :(. It was awful, and the result was I decided to give school a break while I decided where I wanted to go next. Which meant that, in the meantime, I had to go out and find a job. I know. Horrors. So, that was another month and a half shot, then while I started the new job, well, that was another few weeks absorbed. I was able to get a Pax book out in June, but I missed a summer deadline, and made zero progress on the Dragons — or anything else, for that matter.
I can, however, say with excitement that things are settling back into a routine. I haven’t given up on the writing, and I haven’t abandoned any of the characters that I, however inadvertently, may have left hanging. I’ve actually made great strides on Chaos in the last month. I’m almost to the halfway mark, and he’s chattering away :). I put down close to a thousand words just in the last hour, and I’m hoping to keep it up. Fair warning, though. With the way the publishing industry works, and the necessary delays between finishing and publication, I can’t promise 2016 will be much more prolific than 2015, at least not at first. I have high hopes for the writing end, though, and I can promise to keep you updated as much as possible. The next year is free and clear, and I’m enjoying the new job. Most importantly, the hours I work will leave me enough time to keep playing with the characters in my head!
So, to close, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and I wish you all the best for the new year. May 2016 be better than 2015!
So this month has been ridiculous. I completely missed the release date of Right Place, Right Time. It’s my story for the AmberPax Reeling Through the Years collection, which came out over the weekend. This Pax is a series of stories on time travel, written by some great authors. My own contribution combines my love of history and the science fiction genres into what I think is a fun little story. Right now it’s only available here on the Amber Allure website, but it will be up at all the usual places within the next 2-3 weeks.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! I’ll try to get an update to you shortly, to let you know what I’ve been working on 🙂 In the meantime, here’s Right Place, Right Time:
And don’t forget to check out the other stories in the Pax!
So, you might have noticed, Dragon Herder came out yesterday 🙂 The release date kind of snuck up on me, but I’ll be getting the website updated with it this afternoon. In the meantime, be sure to check out my post over on the Pax blog. I’ve got a little background on the story, and don’t forget to comment to be entered to win copies of all the books in the collection!
Hello all! I’ve been kind of out of touch, so I thought I’d pop in with a quick update. First of all, I completely forgot to post, but Nyx’s Pixie is now available at all the usual places. Links are on the appropriate page on my website. The paperback version is also out and can be purchased from Totally Bound or Amazon (I’ll have some of my own to put on the website eventually, but they haven’t arrived yet.)
Next up, if you check out the Coming Soon page, you will see I have another short story coming out with Amber Allure’s Pax line! And it’s right around the corner! It will be coming out on March 15th. It’s a fun, fantastical romp involving, what else, dragons! These are quite different than the ones in my Dragon’s Treasure series, and it was so much fun to write.
Speaking of Dragon’s Treasure, I wanted to let everyone know that yes, I am working on Chaos’ book right now. I’ve been bogged down with a few other deadlines, not to mention my thesis proposal, but I’m hoping to get back into it soon.
One last thing, and then I’ll shut up :). The Romance Reviews is having their anniversary party next month. If you’ve never participated, it’s a lot of fun, with some great giveaways. I have a copy of Cody’s Dragon up for grabs, although I’m not sure what day it will be. But be sure to check out all the other great prizes!
Okay, that’s the end of my rambling. Have a great rest of the week!
It’s here! Book Two in the Dragon’s Treasure series is now available at Totally Bound :). You can download it here. I’ll stick the blurb down below, and be sure to check out the excerpt here. This is early download, so right now the book is only up on Totally Bound’s website. It will be available from all the usual places and in print on February 13th.
Nyx has found a possible mate, but he’s pretty certain Fate made a mistake. Not only is his mate working in a brothel, which is playing merry hell with Nyx’s possessive side, he’s also a Pixie. Pol is small and delicate, and Nyx is certain he would break the poor man within a week. Nyx will just wait until the next candidate comes around. The fact that this is the first potential mate he’s come across in several hundred years is, of course, beside the point. Unfortunately, no matter how hard Nyx tries, he can’t keep away. When he finds himself on the verge of turning into a stalker, Nyx gives in to the inevitable and goes traipsing off to claim his Pixie.
When Nyx comes sweeping into Pol’s life, he’s thrilled to accept the dragon as his mate. No one would call Nyx charming, yet he still manages to sweep Pol off his feet—quite literally, at times. Once the first flush of lust wears off, though, Pol begins to worry that he’s made a mistake. The problem isn’t Nyx. Pol is well on his way to loving the reserved dragon. But Pol is harboring a dangerous secret. A secret with the potential to upset the balance of power in Faerie…
I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and best wishes for the end of the year! I will see you all in 2015 with fun news and new releases!
