One Last Hurrah for 2015

It’s been a rough year for me, and I know that I haven’t been in touch much lately. Those of you who keep up with my news know I’ve been working on my Master’s degree — well, this spring, everything with that started to fall apart. I spent two months scrambling, trying to salvage my work. In the end, I wasn’t able to. I was down to the thesis, and now I have to start all over again :(. It was awful, and the result was I decided to give school a break while I decided where I wanted to go next. Which meant that, in the meantime, I had to go out and find a job. I know. Horrors. So, that was another month and a half shot, then while I started the new job, well, that was another few weeks absorbed. I was able to get a Pax book out in June, but I missed a summer deadline, and made zero progress on the Dragons — or anything else, for that matter.

I can, however, say with excitement that things are settling back into a routine. I haven’t given up on the writing, and I haven’t abandoned any of the characters that I, however inadvertently, may have left hanging. I’ve actually made great strides on Chaos in the last month. I’m almost to the halfway mark, and he’s chattering away :). I put down close to a thousand words just in the last hour, and I’m hoping to keep it up. Fair warning, though. With the way the publishing industry works, and the necessary delays between finishing and publication, I can’t promise 2016 will be much more prolific than 2015, at least not at first. I have high hopes for the writing end, though, and I can promise to keep you updated as much as possible. The next year is free and clear, and I’m enjoying the new job. Most importantly, the hours I work will leave me enough time to keep playing with the characters in my head!

So, to close, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and I wish you all the best for the new year. May 2016 be better than 2015!

More New Cover Art

I have a new cover up on the coming soon page for A Good Idea! That one comes out in March. It’s a short story, and I absolutely love the characters. No plans to do anything more with them as of now, but they are so cute together!

Oh, and just to let you know: yes, the free stories are missing. And yes, I will be fixing that :). They’ll be back up eventually, I’m just bogged down in edits, trying to finish Nyx, and end of the semester papers right now.

New Cover Art

Shiny new cover art for Cody’s Dragon! I know  the release is a little bit away yet, but with the holidays coming up, the time will go really quickly.

I love that dragon :). It’s not quite how I pictured Kirit, but he was too cool to give up! I’m going to try and be online more as the release date gets closer. And, on a related note, I’m making excellent progress on Nyx’s Pixie, the second book in the series. It’s my NaNo book this year and, if everything goes to plan, I should have it completed and ready for submission by the end of the month. I’ll keep you posted!

TRR Year End Splash

Every year The Romance Reviews does a big end of the year party, and it starts this Friday! They’ll be giving away prizes all month long, including a copy of my book The Lonely Heart. Be sure to check out their website, and keep an eye out on November 7th in particular!

Total-E-Bound Gets A Makeover!

If you haven’t heard yet, my publisher launched some HUGE changes yesterday. They have a new name (Totally Bound), a new logo (which I absolutely love) and  a shiny new website! If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should definitely go take a look. They’ve been working hard, and so far, I’m very impressed with what they’ve done. As an added bonus, The Lonely Heart is discounted at the moment, so if you don’t have a copy, now’s the time to snag one!

A New Story!

So, I have some unexpected news! I was on a roll recently, and I managed to finish a short story I’ve been working on here and there as a break for the fantasy stuff. It’s called A Good Idea, and it will be coming out from Total-E-Bound on March 14th. It was a fun little story, with two guys that just make you say awwww. They’re so cute together, lol. I’ve stuck the blurb below, to give you a quick peek 🙂

Daniel Haversohn is stuck in a rut, and he knows it. The kids are grown and gone, he’s years past being “over the hill”, and the only excitement he gets these days come from the occasional argument with a supplier. Owning a bar keeps him busy enough, but each night he has to go home to a cold and lonely house. Enter Joe Masterson.

Joe has known Daniel for longer than he cares to remember, but the military was his life. Now, after twenty-five years of active service, he’s a free man again. And he hates it. When Joe goes to his favorite bar to drown his sorrows, Daniel sees him moping and offers him a job. Tending bar is definitely a downwards career move, but Joe is just bored enough to take it. The problem? Leaving the army behind must have knocked something loose in his libido, because he can’t stop staring at his boss’ ass. Now Joe has to decide if he can throw aside a lifetime of training for one moment of passion. And, just maybe, something deeper.

Closer and Closer

Again, it’s been a while since my last update, so I thought I’d do a quick post to let everybody know I’m still around 🙂 I made the mistake of taking a short term this semester. If you’ve never taken a graduate-level eight week course…don’t. Lol. It’s hell. Tack my independent study on top of that, and it was a wicked few weeks. Now that I’ve finally surfaced from the confusing tangle of Ethical Theory, though, I’ve made huge progress on Cody and the dragons. The independent study has actually helped with that. It’s on the fall of Rome, and I’ve been getting a lot of good ideas :). Last week I was able to get close to 10,000 words done, and nearly half of that in edits, which means I should be able to have the story in to the publisher by the end of this month (as long as Cody cooperates, the stubborn little shit, lol. Kirit is easy, he just does what people tell him to.). I know, it feels like I’ve been working on this story forever. The first book in the series always takes the longest for me, as I work out the world-building and where I’m going with the overall story arc. I’m getting set up nicely for the next books, though; Chaos’ story is completely plotted out and I have a good third of it done already. Too bad he’s not the next in line to be written, lol. That would be Nyx. Once I get the story submitted, I’ll be working on a page for the dragons to stick up on the website, with some bios, background, and other nifty stuff. Tease you a bit with what’s coming :). I’m completely hooked on these characters, and so far this entire world has been so much fun to play around in. I’ll let everyone know when the story is finally shipped off. It shouldn’t be long now!

New Stuff for a New Year

Sorry, I couldn’t think of a better word than ‘stuff’, lol. What can I say? I’ve been working, and I’m all out of creativity for the moment.

It’s been way too long since I posted last…or sent a newsletter…or updated the website. Sigh. I’m behind on everything right now. So, let’s start with the news. I’m finally on the home stretch with Cody’s Dragon. The end is in sight! I’m doing some re-writing, and I have a few more scenes to add, but the bulk of the story is done. I’ve also plotted out the next book, and gotten a start on it and the overall story arc. I think I finally have a handle on where this thing is going, now, so that should make things go more smoothly when I start to get into it. I also have a short story that I’ve been working on to take a break, just a quick little thing about, well, two guys, what else :). I don’t have details on the website, but it’s probably going to end up being a freebie, if I can’t get the length up a little more. Anything under about 12,000 words, and I feel kind of guilty charging for it.

Okay, newsletter. And, what the heck, website, too, ’cause they’re linked. I was working on a re-vamp of the website when my poor, tired laptop finally gave into its ongoing battle with illness, lol. It died around the end of November, and I had to wait for Christmas to roll around to get a new one. I was reduced to paper and pencil for writing (not that I don’t do that anyway). But, I have a shiny new computer that is far superior, all pretty and speedy. I’m back to work on the website, and I’m hopefully going to get the new site live in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, it hasn’t been worth it to update the site. Between the smartphone and stealing computer time, I was able to keep up with emails etc, but I couldn’t sit down and spend hours working, so all that was put on hold. Along with the website, I’m probably going to make some changes with the newsletter, too. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, that whole monthly thing hasn’t really been working out :). Honestly, when I have nothing new and exciting to report, it seems silly to write out a newsletter. Most people get enough emails a day, they don’t need me blathering about nothing. I haven’t come up with a solid plan just yet, but I’ll probably at least go to every two months or something, with special announcements in between if something exciting happens. Right now there’s nothing special about the newsletters, and I’d like to change that, too. Like I said, not really sure what I’m doing with that, but I’m sure I’ll think of something!

Phew. I think that covers it all. My resolution for this year was to do better with posting, social media, and all that good online stuff. Of course, my resolutions rarely get anywhere, but it’s the thought that counts, right? *Grin*

I hope everyone’s year is off to a fabulous start!
